Procrastination…

Good morning!!….In spite of having procrastinated (by a lot this time!!) I wish to start this post with my usual cheery GM. We all deserve a good morning, a good day and if we can help it a good life. At least there is one thing we can control, and that is what we choose to see, and how we choose to see things. I believe strongly that there is beauty all around us….in people, in things, in the things we smell (or choose to smell if you get my drift). In my case a large part of my life out there, walking consists of looking straight up and today’s post makes no exception to that fact and the beauty that exists thanks to architects. Please enjoy and as always, feel free to comment, ask or simply offer your opinion.

Thank you again for allowing me to procrastinate (as if you did have a choice…lol). I trust that with four postings I was able to compensate a little. Above all thank you for following my work and as usual you can head off to my facebook page for more  info and up to the minute posts.

Cheers!

Relationships….

Good morning!!…..I thought I would briefly offer two examples of what I call urban relationships – that is to say how buildings relate to one another in an urban setting, and how the parts of a building relate to each other. In my first example, taken in the Paris business district of La Défense, the photograph speaks for itself. I love how the two structures seem to lean against one another, to talk, maybe even watch us go by. The second is a re-edit one of my favorite captures of Gehry’s Disney Concert Hall – and in it we can see how well all the parts play a role, but integrate, form a team that will eventually oh and ah may passers-by and those who enter the structure.

Either way, buildings can be a symbol of beauty and elegance; and sometimes all we have to do is look up to see their display of grace.  I hope you like them, and if you wish to see more please follow my work here: http://www.facebook.com/FJEimages

A little monochrome…

Good morning!…this time I’m posting a theme that I love…..passages. Again the HALL, with a light texture and processing, but focusing on a beautiful bit of 5 o’clock light. I love the leading lines that Gehry works with in his designs, the sense of hope and discovery; this being no exception. I hope you enjoy it and thank you for visiting.

Oh, there is another piece on passages/transitions further down if you want to check.

Thank you,

Unveiled…

Good morning!……It has been a while and I decided to come back with a piece that I did recently basically combining two photographs of my favorite site, the Hall as I call it. I liked the effect of ‘veil’ that the two faces of the building yielded – a sort of transparency that spoke of fabric rather than metal. I also meant the term in it’s traditional museum meaning, such as ‘unveiling’ a painting, etc. because this is new to some and I present it this way for the first time…It always amuses and amazes me to see that metal can be soft, warm or even transparent, and have that sensation of ‘flowing’. This is more natural or possible in the Gehry forms of course, or in the work of Calatrava, which I hope to photograph soon given the city I’m currently living in.

Please enjoy it and note that the Hall is represented in many of my other postings which can be viewed if you scroll through my site.

Coalescence…

Good morning!..Motivated by my previous post I wanted to blend, not textures today, but just images this time – I set to create a sense of flow, a marriage of images of the same building to stir/wake-up the imagination. Often we see juxtaposed sections of buildings as we walk about and I say – what would happen if they were transparent? if you could see through them and they would form a different structure all together, a sort of abstract. These two are of the Disney Concert Hall in LA, one of Gehry‘s finest works. There are several examples of this building in my previous blogs which you are welcome to see. I hope you enjoy these two for now at least.

Texture….natural and added

Good Morning! – Still exploring the Hall here and reworking some older pieces. I love to go back to work I already did and finding new ways to express what is already captured. In the case of the first photograph I re-toned the piece and added a texture to make it more dramatic and emphasize the morning light. And on the second I went back to one of my favorite angles and explored the natural texture of the metal this time. I used a cream tone on this final version to complete this monochrome set of two.

If lines can be sexy and metal seem warm this is Gehry for you…..please enjoy them.

Simple Vistas…

Good morning!…..today I am attaching two photographs taken March 2012 while visiting my main ‘hang-out” in Los Angeles – Gehry’s Concert Hall. Again the emphasis is on the lines and their flow and they intend to present the strength of the  ‘metal’ in two different ways….at night (with the sky totally blackened / monochrome) and during the day, softer, calmer. Again it pays to return to a certain site over and over to push the boundaries of imagination and see what the day tells you; how the light plays its game on that day. I often do that, return to the same place many times to see what I forgot, retrace my steps, talk to the building sort of thing. Hope you enjoy them……

JUst…

Just a couple of images to complement earlier writings……which you are more than welcome to peruse.

The first I called “The tempest”……I diffused it a bit to bring forth a dreamy quality – a seemingly unruly array it transports you to another world playing music even before you enter the Hall to actually listen to music (monochrome 2010).

Second, blend of Hall lines – I call it “essential Gehry” (monochrome 2009)….

Please enjoy,

Julian

At sea…

Fourth installment wants to show the Hall in three different instances – calm, frisky and “kick ass” Piercing the Sky (the wave finally breaking)….sometimes when I see the Hall I think of an ocean, very fitting to southern California and in this instance, a nice break from the downtown old fashioned brick and mortar structures…..Please enjoy!

Calm seas….

Frisky, as waves that stir and carry the power to be…

Piercing the Sky…..the wave finally breaks.

Abstractness in architecture, details, superimposed plates of stainless steel that free the imagination – at least mine. Thank you for visiting……
